In this class we will be painting flowers in both oils and acrylics. There is 7+ hours of video instruction. We will be working both expressively and abstractly. My main focus is painting portraits of people. I feel like my flowers are portraits as well….alive and expressive.

There are exercises as well as 4 full length projects. One project, A Vintage Floral Wall, we go deep into the layers. Layers of history to create something rich and mysterious requiring us to destroy some of what we created to make the painting successful. I start with my favorite substrate, an old vintage tablecloth.  I layer with collage and paint, sand and destroy certain areas and repeat till it looks like an old vintage wall showing hints of what was underneath.

I also paint traditionally with oils two paintings, roses and daisies to create luminous flowers. I also demonstrate creating a very abstract, expressive background which will be the ground for painting acrylic flowers on top. A very fun, unexpected approach.

I wanted to make this course diverse by using different substrates and different mediums and flowers were the focus. You will be working free and. loose on some pieces and more measured on others.  Lots of fun and experimenting as well as important art principles demonstrations through color mixing and values.
