In this class we will be creating two different books; both will be 6″ x 8″ and have four signatures. One book I demonstrate how to do a coptic binding stitch, the other book is a version of coptic but it will include a loop binding element.

The pages are made primarily from vintage fabric but any fabric will do. What I mean about vintage is old tablecloths, runners, napkins , hankies etc. You can find such items on Etsy and Ebay as well as local vintage stores and flea markets. Part of the fun is the collecting!!  Instead of just plain fabric you can find tablecloths with all kinds of beautiful embroidery on it as well as stains and holes and mending. It has a history that I just love.

I demonstrate several painting videos of a face, animals and flowers. I show you how to paint over an image transfer and collage as well as creating a drawing and painting with acrylics  ,inks and watercolors combined. I love this technique of mixing water color with acrylics.

One of the covers is an encaustic piece that I work over a collage element, the other cover is an image transfer and painting with acrylics.

Other techniques I go over are creating plaster fabric, image transfers, creating borders for the book using layers of fabric and collage.

Some students prefer collecting fabric owned by ancestors and using photo images of family to create their own contemporary heirloom. It’s a beautiful project you will treasure forever.
