Notes
In this class I will be demonstrating how to create the portrait using the planes of the face using the Asaro head and my own drawings as reference. I discuss a number of lighting situations and most of the painting demos are focusing on a particular light source. It is my goal to share how important the fundamentals are and to practice before jumping into the fun part, painting. I show you how I mix colors using a limited amount of paints.
This class is so dense. I teach art principles such as lighting, color mixing and breaking down the face into planes to understand how light hits differently. We study this. Then we explore…..I paint with charcoal and white acrylic paint in one of the portraits. I draw holding two pencils at a time in another. I add oil bars on top of the charcoal drawing. I find a photo of a portrait that uses colors I normally don’t work with and figure out how to mix the colors with a limited palette. A very extensive color mixing video shows you that you don’t need a lot of paint colors to create beautiful color. You can mix them. I like this approach because by limiting the colors, you will come up with a more harmonious painting by mixing.
I added to the class as the class was live so that is why there are so many videos and projects! I really wanted this to be a very comprehensive class.
