In this 3-hour mini course, Kate guides you through creating a soulful mixed-media figure on loose natural canvas. Beginning with a raw cloth substrate, you’ll build your piece through collage, image transfers, vintage inspired papers, botanical elements, and layered marks.

As the figure begins to emerge, Kate will show you how to intuitively develop the composition with paint, allowing nature inspired imagery to become part of the story. Each piece will be personal and unique, with students choosing their own combination of florals, leaves, animals, and gathered visual fragments to create a figure that feels both expressive and deeply connected to the natural world.
